LTTA Hosts Run/Roll Event

On Saturday, September 28, the Lake Travis Tennis Association (LTTA) hosted its Run/Roll tennis event at Lakecliff Racquet Club, uniting players of varying abilities for an afternoon of competitive and inclusive tennis. A collaboration between LTTA, USTA Texas, and the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation, the event featured doubles matches that paired wheelchair players with able-bodied teammates for an afternoon of competitive and fun tennis.

“We’re proud to host events like this that truly showcase the inclusive spirit of tennis,” said LTTA President Richard Evans. “Bringing players of different abilities together on the same court creates a powerful experience, reminding us that tennis is a sport for everyone. It also strengthens the bonds within our community, fostering deeper connections through shared participation.”

After several rotations, where teams faced off against each other for some doubles action, Lakecliff tennis pro Gerardo Meza kept the momentum going by running a series of tennis drills. In a fun twist, able-bodied players had the chance to try out the wheelchairs and experience the game from a new perspective. This eye-opening experience gave them a deeper appreciation for the skill and precision required to play wheelchair tennis. The drills not only tested their adaptability but also fostered a greater sense of respect for their wheelchair tennis partners.

As the day wound down, players gathered on the patio for a well-earned dinner. Lakecliff co-owner Aland Price fired up the grill and prepared a delicious meal, rounding off a day that perfectly blended tennis, community, and inclusion.

LTTA is excited to host more events that promote accessibility and inclusion in the sport. By uniting players of different abilities, LTTA strives to build a tennis community that thrives on connection, mutual support, and a shared passion for the game.
